Perinatal Mood Disorders Support
UNC Center for Women’s Mood Disorders – Directed by David R. Rubinow, MD, chair of the UNC Department of Psychiatry, and an internationally known expert in the evaluation and treatment of women with mood disorders that occur during periods of hormonal change. The Perinatal Depression Program is directed by Samantha Meltzer-Brody, MD, MPH. The clinic provides assessment and treatment, including counseling and/or medication and ongoing support for women experiencing these serious health challenges. They also refer to and manage the Perinatal Psychiatry Inpatient Unit (the only one in the nation). The Unit provides specialty care for women suffering from severe perinatal psychiatric illness. Completely free-standing, includes 5 patient bed (private and semi-private). Infants are encouraged to visit for as long as possible, but may not stay overnight.
